Company is First in the Transportation and Travel Services Industry to Receive a Perfect Score in Report Conducted by The Human Rights Campaign Foundation
NEW YORK 19-09-2007 — Travelport Limited, the parent company of the Travelport group of companies, today announced it is the first travel company to achieve a 100 percent rating in the sixth annual Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Annual Corporate Equality Index, released today. The Index rates employers on a scale of 0 to 100 percent on their treatment and protection of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees, consumers and investors. Ratings are based on factors like non-discrimination policies, diversity training and benefits for domestic partners and transgender employees.
“We are honored to be recognized for our initiatives to foster a tolerant and supportive professional environment that provides all employees with the tools to succeed,” stated Jeff Clarke, president and CEO of Travelport. “As we continue to expand our business operations globally, this milestone represents our commitment to promoting equal opportunities within Travelport that reflect the diverse marketplace in which we are competing.”
In addition to Travelport’s equal employment opportunity policy, which reinforces its commitment to hire, develop, promote and retain the most talented people regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual preference/orientation, gender identity, age, marital status, national origin, citizenship, physical or mental disability or Veteran status, the company has policies and procedures for harassment and discrimination complaints and resolution and offers full benefits and medical coverage for domestic partnerships, emphasizing the importance it places on culture and diversity.
“More businesses than ever before have recognized the value of a diverse and dedicated workforce,” said Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese. “More importantly, these employers understand that embracing the GLBT constituency will ultimately increase their ability to compete in the global marketplace “
In this year’s Index, an unprecedented 195 major U.S. businesses earned the top rating of 100 percent, up from 138 last year. Those 195 businesses that met all the criteria employ more than 8.3 million workers, representing a significant increase compared to the 13 companies with 690,000 workers that received the top rating when the survey was launched in 2002.
